Nanosolar

Nanosolar claims to be the first solar panel manufacturer to be able to profitably sell solar panels for less than $1 a watt. That is the price at which solar energy becomes less expensive than coal. Check out this NY Times article about Nanosolar posted December 18, 2007. And, watch this video from KQED:

I am fascinated by solar power.

  1. Jacob Angel Says:

In our area, they’ve been experimenting with solar panels but there’s no sense yet that it will get replicated on a commercial scale.

What does seem to be doable is an attempt to use sunlight to heat water for homes — running the water through a panel that contains a maze of piping. It’s liek a large-scale, controlled version of what happens when your garden hose lays out in the sun while there’s still water in it.
